Perry,
Mate sort of a follow-on from my other post. I received the guitar I bought from Japan, the body isnt too bad, has a few dings and whatnot but it looks pretty good. The finish on the neck is a bit of a mess, as in the pictures below. There are some chips right through to the wood. Do you have any suggestions of what i could do to the neck to bring it back up to standard? I thought of bringing it to a natural finish or something, or maybe it could just be sanded and re-laquered. What do you think? I figure just fixing up the neck would be cheaper and easier than a full re-finish...
P.S Pretty sure its a poly finish, not nitro.

Id need to see it, to avoid just throwing out the most expensive price to cover any possible things I cant see in a photo.

Im guessing you'd probably also need to know if its neck-thru or bolt on. Presumably bolt on would be easier to deal with.

Ok, i have a few more photos, dunno if that will help or not. I might plan to just drop in and see you next time i'm in Perth?
Its a 1981 Yamaha SG-2000. Obviously due to its age (and they are getting harder to find) i want to keep it all as original as possible, i just want to make it nice and playable too. Its a neck through as you can see in the photos below.

Does this help at all? I guess i'm just looking at options. Is it necessarily a problem to have chips through to the wood? I dont want to damage it further by playing it etc.
