For Tolkien nerds
« on: May 11, 2009, 06:22:13 PM »
like me!

The Hobbit is being made, in Kiwi land again, in two parts. Seems a little strange considering the book is shorter than any of the single lord of the rings books, but Guillermo Del Toro is directing so fuck yeah! Pans labyrinth is easily one of my favourite movies. Peter Jackson is executive producer or something like that, filming starts next year.

It was originally planned to have one Hobbit movie, and then a 'bridging' film to link the Hobbit with LoTR, but I guess they've changed it now. It seems they didnt want to cram everything into one film, and having two will also allow them to expand on elements that were only alluded to in the book.
But this bridging film could still happen afterwards, which will mean another 3 films.

There's plenty of articles and stuff here http://the-hobbit-movie.com

To tide you over until the first film is released, check out this 40 minute fan-made film, The Hunt For Gollum : http://thehuntforgollum.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html
It was adapted from parts of the LoTR appendices, and it follows Aragorn as he sets out in search of Gollum to find out the truth about the Ring and to keep its secret.
Some of the acting and fight-scenes are a little hokey, but considering its $3000 budget, its not bad.

Looking forward to this, i think they will probably have some massivly long battle of the 5 armies, which will be welcome, nothing was more dissapointing when reading the hobbit and reading the massive build up to the battle, and im sitting there thinking about how awesome and epic its going to be....and then bilbo gets hit in the head and you get deprived of the whole battle!!!

This will be cool, I'm glad Peter Jackson isn't the Director.

While this will be fucking excellent, I was thinking of this ages ago and was hoping miyazaki would do it, that would be more awesome than awesome, plus the childlike simplicity of the hobbit would suit his type of movie making. Oh well, I can still dream though.

Yeah, heard about this AGES ago
Can't wait, should be awesome
Del Toro with assistance from Jackson - don't really see how it could fail.
I mean, Del Toro's done some average stuff - but when the project is quality he's capable of making complete awesomeness.
