Ok to clear this up for you Val.
When turning on your amp, turn on the power then then standby.
When turning off your amp, turn off the power then the standby. As Perry said it drains the filter caps.
If this causes your speakers to pop then turn the master volume down before switching the amp off.
What is bad for the amp is if the power goes off then on again. Or large power spikes. This is where a power conditioner is helpfull. most amps are overengineered in this respect & the transformers absorb most of the power issues, if not that is what the fuses are for. However any device that helps reduce wear & tear is a good thing.
Also seeing as you run pedals it would be a good thing for them.
They can also help clean up dirty or dodgy power, which can damage or prematurely wear equipment. Also dirty power can cause some horrible noises, espescially if you have a chain of pedals as you do.
Iam currently trying to wrangle some hospital grade power & iec leads from private sources. Unlike most power leads these fuckers are shielded. They are used on equipment like xray machines to eliminate all forms of hash. You know that annoying sound a mobile phone makes through your amp just before a call comes through, that is one form of hash & these leads pretty much eliminate it. They are expensive as fuck though. Good news is they get tossed after a very short working life. bad news is that they are supposed to be destroyed so they don't end up back in a hospital by some dodgy cost cutting electrician. I have a source that may be able to get me some however.
