I just broke the volume pot on my JEM 7V
« on: June 16, 2009, 05:35:05 PM »
I somehow managed to hit the volume knob too hard with my right hand unintentionally while playing.  I immediately lost all sound from the guitar and I can feel that the volume pot has come loose inside.

I imagine that in order to fix it I will:

1)  Loosen off the strings

2)  Unscrew and remove the scratchplate

3)  Put the volume pot back in place and probably re-solder one of the wires which has come loose

4)  Put it all back together and swear at the Floyd-Rose for a few hours while I try to get it all back in tune

I would rather take it in to get fixed but as I live 150km out of Perth I don't really have time at the moment.  Am I on the right track?  Is it likely I will be able to fix it myself or should I just bite the bullet and take it in?  The very last thing I want to do is fuck up this guitar.

You cant really stuff it up, so rip off the scratch plate and take a look. If it looks daunting, bring it in. Sounds like you know enough to get it going though.

Got the scratch plate off, there are two white wires that have come loose.  Soldering them up now.  Thanks for the vote of confidence  8)

Done.  The upside of it all is I think I just discovered my pickups were set way too high, I backed them off a bit and its sounding much better.

What you talking about? I In the past 2 years since discovering Ormsby guitars I haven't bought any other brand of guitar with the exception of a couple bought purely to sell, and hav not sold any of my Ormsbys. Although previously I've bought and sold around 15 guitars per year.

Yep, I only played it for a couple of days now it stays locked away for 20 years. The smallest run the company the company has done makes for a good investment.

We still going to rip it apart to do the pickup tests?  :eyebrows:

Killer guitar.
