We are thinking of doing our first ever cover at our next launch, hopefully something commercial we can heavy up.

I think a Michael Jackson song would be fitting... Alien Ant Farm managed to butcher Smooth Criminal - Im sure you guys can do a MUCH better job than that. ;)

I am actually hoping to do Faith No More's "Midlife Crisis".
do CCR 'Run through the Jungle' I reckon that'd be awesome or a Doors cover since you have the keyboard. Sins of The Father covered 5 to 1 and it was good.

"You're saying strange things."

I don't see what the controversy is.

The real controversy here scotty is HOW THE FUCK did you manage to get roped into doing a 5 / 1 roster at Iluka ya silly pillock?! I reckon soon you'll be more in touch with the Toolebuc (as in... where the FUCK is Tooleybuc?) metal scene than the perth one... COME HOME SOON SCOTTY WE MISS YOU!!! ;D

Anyways, covers are great and i love seeing local bands do em as they are usually done very well (apart from Wrathchild... FUCK they were AWFUL and BUTCHERED some maiden classics). Its good for bands to throw in a few crowd "favorites" (depending on the crowd you can have your more traditional shit ala metallica, slayer etc .... but for the more ecclectic crowds stuff like kreator, venom, celtic frost always go down a treat also) along with their own originals to keep the energy pumping / crowd interested during their set.

Hi SOD :-*
I just came home, now I'm back in the 'Buc where the only metal scene is the dozens of Toohey's cans littered along the street...
5 \ 1 is CRIMINAL and I can't wait for it to be over. I signed up for a 2/1 roster, then when I got here they extended it!! Kunce.

As for FNM, Helloween did an average cover of From Out of Nowhere, but Sentenced didn't do too bad a job on Digging the Grave!

I'm getting deja vu, hasn't there already been a thread on good\bad metal covers? That's WF for ya, always repeating the same old topics...

I reckon the odd cover here and there is awesome, and sabotage gigs were great fun, would like to see them again some time, or maybe just few sabbath covers next psychonaut gig. Wrathchild were a little disapointing though.

Slightly off topic but has anyone heard adagios cover of immigrant song? fucken epic wank = fucken awesome  :headbang:

I haven't been of Western Front for a while but in regards to this gig....I agree Wrathchild didn't play the best however it was a first gig and something that was thrown together in such a short time. The project wasn't intended to be an ongoing thing however everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Maybe a few songs got butchered and I'm definately no Bruce Dickinson but we certainly had fun.

I think covers are a very exciting addition to any bands set, if you want to play it faithful then I think a band that suites that style better always works well (Dethlahem, P-Naut/Sabotage/Orgasmatron and even Noctis doing their amazing cover/s)
But if a band can do a song with their own spin it can very worthwhile when done right.

For anyone interested Sins has covered the following

Roots Bloody Roots-Sepultura
The Faded Line- LOG
The Great Southern Trendkill-Pantera
Five to One- The Doors
Angry Chair- Alice in Chains
Toxic Garbage Island- Gojira
The start of Ocean Plant- Gojira ( Used as intro into a set)

Id love to see more band doing covers, faithful and experimental.
Sins is even thinking of doing a night with bands performing covers of MTV Unplugged songs which could also already be covers themselves
ala Nirvana's take on Bowie's the man who sold the world.

Your thoughts on that type of gig people?

Just try and leave out any Brittany or Madison Avenue covers eh?  8)

Angry chair! haha, used to that in a cover band years back. good song, used to go off. also did Dam that river.
In regards to covers gig, i think the more music and shows that go on here in Perth the better.
Just knowing there are always a whole heap of shows on most weekends is a good thing i think. Trying to create more of a music culture, metal and all sorts, is a good idea.
Tis the reason why bands here, as good as they are, just dont get the numbers or interest here in their home town as much as they'd like. people are interested in other things, namely how cool the rest of the world is, and we arent.
Not true.
support your locals asswipes!... i mean, you awesome people you.

That sounds good. Even a night of metal bands playing any non-metal songs (not just mtv unplugged)... in a metal way. If Nexus plays it... we bagsy Toto - Africa  :headbang:
