Its official

According to Kill Your Stereo, SLAYER will team up with MEGADETH for a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The dates are as follows:

Oct. 05 - Logan Campbell Centre - Auckland, New Zealand
Oct. 07 - Riverstage - Brisbane, Australia
Oct. 08 - Hordern Pavilion - Sydney, Australia
Oct. 09 - Festival Hall - Melbourne, Australia
Oct. 11 - Thebarton Theatre - Adelaide, Australia
Oct. 13 - Challenge Stadium - Perth, Australia

Tickets will go on sale on Monday, August 10.

MEGADETH and SLAYER joined forces for the "Canadian Carnage" five-date tour in June, with MACHINE HEAD and SUICIDE SILENCE opening the show. MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine stated about the trek, "The tour with SLAYER was really, really cool. I saw Kerry [King, SLAYER guitarist]. Kerry was out watching us last night on two separate occasions, and although I didn't get a chance to see them [SLAYER], it was really good to know that the ice is melting. I sent them over a couple of peace offerings on the way from Edmonton to Calgary and those guys had a nice trip on the way down in the bus ? we flew.

"We just had a great, great time playing with these guys. The audience was over the top ? so loud, it was unbelievable. My soundman, Doug Short, who lives up there in Vancouver, said that he's got something on the side of the console called a spectrum analyzer, and that measures the sound and the EQ in the house at all times. So that's we're always constantly trying to improve our sound. Sometimes we have a bad night sound-wise ? usually the first night of any tour, because you're just getting your hands on the PA for the first time and you're flying by the seat of your pants because you've got the same new PA in a building, and now all of a sudden, it's full of people. Well, we haven't had a building full of people to play with these systems yet, so usually the first concert is a struggle for them. But Doug had said, while he was wrangling with all of this stuff ? and I thought he did a great job ? he said, 'The audience was over 106 dB.' And I said, 'That's crazy ? that's almost louder than a jet airplane.' And he told me that the last night, when we were in Winnipeg, was even louder. So I'm really excited to be able to have been on this tour with SLAYER. They said it couldn't be done, and the power of heavy metal brought us back together."

It's OOOONNN!!!!

Taken from the Megadeth official website...

Quote
Talk about a mind-blowing double-header. Megadeth and Slayer - two of the bands that defined the thrash/metal genre - will perform together for the first time ever in Australia and New Zealand when they co-headline six shows in October (see itinerary below).

Both Slayer and Megadeth have recently emerged from the recording studio with brand new albums - Slayer's World Painted Blood, due out later this year, and Megadeth's Endgame set for a September 15 release.

Megadeth and Slayer will be well-warmed up for the Australian/New Zealand dates, as the bands co-headlined the "Canadian Carnage" trek in June, marking the first time the bands had shared a stage in more than 15 years.  According to various Canadian press outlets:  "It was a night of thrash impossible to trash..." "Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun..."  "The two heavy metal heavyweights ...went head-to-head on a level playing field.  Both bands brought their A game.  And the results were anything but pretty - unless you include pretty freakin' loud and pretty freakin' awesome."

Few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer brings to its live shows, having been named "Best Live Band" by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer.  Slayer - guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo - recorded World Painted Black in Los Angeles between October 2008 and April 2009 with Greg Fidelman producing and Rick Rubin executive producing.  Fans around the world were given an early taste of the brutal new Slayer material when "Psychopathy Red," a song inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who confessed to savagely murdering 56 children, was leaked online last Fall.  Fans in Australia and New Zealand will be treated to Slayer performing "Psychopathy Red" live on stage.

With over 20 million albums sold worldwide, the icon that is Megadeth culminated the past April with Dave Mustaine?s acceptance of the highly coveted ?Golden God? accolade and the band's headline performance at the inaugural Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles.  Megadeth ? lead guitarist/lead vocalist Dave Mustaine, lead and rhythm guitarist Chris Broderick, bassist James Lomenzo and drummer Shawn Drover ? recorded Endgame, their 12th studio album in Los Angeles with Andy Sneap.  Known for their ferocious live show, Megadeth will once again bring this intensity to their loyal throng of Australian and New Zealand followers.

Dates for Megadeth and Slayer's double-header are:

October
5         Logan Campbell Centre, Auckland, New Zealand
7         Riverstage (outdoor), Brisbane, Australia
8         Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, Australia
9         Festival Hall, Melbourne, Australia
11       Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide, Australia
13       Challenge Stadium, Perth, Australia

No mention of Machine Head or whoever that other band was.... that means there's a potential opening for a local support. My vote goes to....

PSYCHONAUT!!

Seeing P'naut at Challenge? Fuck! Yes!

Having said that if its Machine Head as earlier rumored, I'd be pretty happy too
[Psychonaut] Sounds like Black Sabbath having rough sex with NWOBHM while 'early' Slayer jerks off in the corner  :cunning:

^ The real Megadeth

If only

The first time I saw Megadeth live was with this line up back in 93 and they were impressive to say the least

I'd actually rate the DVDs I have from that era higher than Rude Awakening or That One Night (Buenos Aires) and that's probably due to the quality of the band

Yeah the live concert you get in the Warchest is awesome Menzas drums sound fat and solid as hell
