FUCK YEAH DANIEL GILDENLOW!

GETTING USED TO PAIN, GETTING USED TO PAIN!

But yeah... seriously... actually getting to see Pain Of Salvation, which I never thought I'd manage to, was fucking awesome.
Great night, aside from some minor cons... like not getting into Dream Theater's show even as much as the first time I saw them, as I've never been a big fan (although I admit they did put on a great show and Portnoy is a legend)... or people above me who "couldn't hold their drinks" and nearly managed to pass me one upside down... but the biggest con was:

Pain Of Salvation not getting an extended set or dedicated gig... Happily would have paid more than double for an extra hour by the concrete lake's worth of Pain Of Salvation goodness... they didn't even get to play a single song from that album!

I'm hoping though, that having another major international prog metal band here in Perth, along with the uprising of some great local prog (need I mention any names?), will encourage some other much needed prog metal bands to give us a visit... such as Symphony X!

EDIT: On an added note, massive thumbs up to the aboriginal man who gave me his unneeded FamilyRider ticket for no particular reason... such random acts of kindness remind me there's still a tiny percentage of people in the world who genuinely aren't totally self-centered.

Thank god...the only highlight of their set was when mike came out and played the drums for a song...other than that..it was 45 mins that DT could have been playing...

Yeah, so DT could play another 45 minutes of slow guitar/keyboard improv, while the rest of the band was sleeping...

I didn't think much to POS but DT were their usual technically brilliant self.
Thought I'd be home nice and early due to the 10:30 finish, only to be nixed by the dickheads
at mainroads that decide to close 2 of the 3 lanes of the freeway on a satday night. ???

Can anybody post the setlist?

Couldnt get into POS, not being familiar with their stuff didnt help, nor did the crappy mix which eventually cleared up after the 3rd song (which was good). I dunno, Ive heard good things about their 'Be' album, but for the sound they made it might as well have been Karnivool up there. Having a six string bass and a keyboard doesnt make you an awesome prog/technical band  :raspberry:

Il check out 'Be' though, anybody have some other recommendations?

Dream Theater were great! Looked like the band was having a bit of fun too, well except for mr ice cold John Myung  :P How crazy is Jordans keytar?

Still can't believe I got to see PoS. Set list was awesome, glad they didn't play anything past Remedy Lane except for Linoleum which sounds amazing live. I just wish we could of seen more of them.

Dream Theater were entertaining, although mostly for Portnoy. Just wish he would of gotten a solo instead of Rudess.

My own opinion is to stay away from BE. Its not a true representation of their sound, and its quite pretentious. Get Remedy Lane or The Perfect Element.

I don't get why people go so crazy over DT. Their music is cold and extremely pretentious. They had their VERY occasional moments on a couple of older albums but that's about as far as it goes. Still only moments though, they really have no idea how to write a song, all they do is go on stupidly long and boring tangents which have no relevance to the cores of the songs, passing them off as 'progressive'.

Petrucci can shred, no doubt, but does he ever play anything you can actually whistle along to?

Portnoy is over-rated. Much like Petrucci, he has technical skills but he never plays anything tasty.

Don't get me started on LaBrie. The guy has the worst voice in history. No control, no dynamics, no melody. Very annoying.

Not quite sure what the point was in posting that.

ARE YOU FRIGGIN SERIOUS

I've seen a fuck of a lot of bands in my time - as I'm sure you have, but only walking out of the gig last night I said to "that guy is a better player than Nicko (McBrain)"
