Pestilence - Spheres
« on: October 05, 2009, 04:53:30 PM »
Ive read a few reviews and articles on this release. All sorts of stories about how the once mighty thrash sounds have been ditched for jazz breaks and synths etc.

Ive heard a few tracks and, although its a touch weaker than the earlier stuff, its doesnt seem *too* bad, might have caused a few eyebrow raises and 'what the fuck?"s on release.

Any of you guys have this, is it worth a shot?

its a good album, not a great one. I'd buy it for completeness but its my least favorite (due to the deviation from their old raw death/thrash sound).

Better to buy ALL of their previous albums tho.... ;D
HAHAHAHA

Give Resurrection Macabre a run too, I've enjoyed it for a few months now 8)

Definitely their weakest in my opinion. I prefer the sound on Testimony of the Ancients and Consuming Impulse.

Pestilence were known back then for jumping on the latest trend at the time. When Death were releasing Human and Individual Thought Patterns, Pestilence did a melodic death album, when Cynic's Focus landed, they copied and did a jazz fusion album. Because extreme metal is popular again, Resurrection Macabre followed a similar suit.

While Mameli is a talented dutch musician and massive self-promoter, the trend hopping cheaped them a fair bit. I mean he had another solo project C-187 which was metal and gangsta rap. Rubbish.
