WF METAL CAMP - 20th~22nd Nov '09
« on: October 18, 2009, 09:02:04 AM »
Thought it was about time there was another Western Front METAL CAMP!

The plan is to head down south to Baden Powell in Dwellingup on Friday, 20th November during the late afternoon and then return home around midday or so on Sunday, 22nd November in time to see US death metal fiends Obituary at the Amplifier Bar.

Past camps have been great, although this is sure to be the best yet, with Regnator, Malestrom & Blitz (Wardaemonic) plus other guests set to perform an unplugged congregation of accoustic rituals (featuring originals and covers, possibly including Ulver & Moonsorrow among others) on Saturday evening!  :headbang:

Full directions and maps will be posted in the next few days, but below is a bit of info on the area:

Quote
There are several camping and day-use areas in Lane-Poole Reserve. Camping fees are $5 per adult (16 years of age or over) and $2 per child aged between 5 and 16 years (less than 5 years free). Day use of the reserve is currently free of charge.

An annual total fire ban is in force in Lane Poole Reserve from 15 December to 15 March, Low rainfall and/or hot conditions may see fire bans extended. Campers are encouraged to bring their own gas stoves during these periods. Wood fires in the fire rings provided are permitted during the rest of the year. Firewood is not supplied, but is available from local distributors for about $5 a bag.

Dogs are allowed, but only on a leash. Unrestrained pets are at risk from fox baiting carried out in the reserve under CALM's Western Shield program.

Roads are gravel, maximum speed 40 km per hour please. Nearest towns: Dwellingup (7.5 km) and Waroona (32 km).

Campers code: respect other campers, please keep all noise to a minimum after 9pm and please place all rubbish in the bins provided at each camp site.

Baden Powell Campground
Where is it?: 9km from Dwellingup, 1.5km from entry station
Facilities: Toilet, tables, barbecues, bins, canoe launch and steps down to the water.
What to do: Camping, Swimming, fishing, canoeing, picnic, bushwalking.

Please note the $5 per adult camping fee...looks like we'll get in before the fire restrictions start so bring meat and marshmallows too. Remember sunscreen and swimming gear as it was pretty hot last time, athough don't forget a hoody or some warmer clothes also as it can still get quite cold at night.

We might have to try keep the noise down after 9pm (although if there are too many public campers we may opt for an alternative spot just around the corner), so the performance(s) on Saturday will probably be about 7-8pm...might even have to go busker style and set up a guitar case for people to throw donations of money and/or booze into.  :P

Again, feel free to come down on Saturday morning or afternoon if you have other obligations and can't make it on Friday evening as it will be a weekend not to be missed!

Sounds like a plan! I can help out with the map / details if need be.
I went down there earlier in the year with my bros etc and I'm pretty familiar with the different areas.

Yeah we'll be performing on the Sat evening and the idea is to perform a few originals in acoustic form but mostly covers. At the moment a list of potential artists include Ulver, Moonsorrow, Bathory, Empyrium, Enslaved, Finntroll, Belenos, Wyrd and Falkenbach among others.

Just for something different and maybe an incentive for people to come along and enjoy some music as well.

Should be good.

Alrighty then... :hmm:

For any early birds making the trip on Friday (20th Nov), a few of us will probably be leaving Perth around 2pm to claim our spot and set up. We'll then return to Dwellingup to meet up with those heading down after work or whatever about 8pm...the designated meeting point being the big car park out front of the pub (on the corner of Del Park & Marinup Rds).

Anyone making the trip early on Saturday (21st Nov) can propbably catch us in town again gathering additional supplies at approximately 10am, before the final return for any stragglers and last-minute requirements around 5pm.

Oh, mobile phones can be a bit retarded out that way, so just be aware of your reception in case you're running late, get lost and/or need to make a call.

For anyone in need of directions to Dwellingup:

Follow Albany Hwy out of the city to Armadale;
Continue south through to the South Western Hwy and follow it all the way down to North Dandalup;
Then turn left onto Del Park Rd, which takes you through to Dwellingup (the pub will be on your left, you can't miss it).

Alternatively, you could go the Kwinana Fwy;
Keep heading south down through Baldivis Rd;
Turn left onto Karrnup Rd, which cuts through to Serpentine;
And then, it's right onto the South Western Hwy (down to Del Park Rd).

From there, to locate the camping area*, turn left (off Del Park Rd) onto McLarty St (which turns into Pinjarra Williams Rd);
Right down Nanga Rd until the left exit onto Park Road at the camping area entry station, this then takes you through to Baden Powell.

* Should Baden Powell be too crowded with public campers our alternative camping site will be just a few more minutes down Nanga Rd (so instead of turning left onto Park Rd), it'll be an open area located on your right-hand side.

You can check out a map for your own directions here.

Info and a map of Baden Powell and surrounding areas, which you may like to explore on Saturday/Sunday, can be found here.

I think that pretty much covers it, again, don't forget the $5 per adut camping fee...other than that remember to respect the area and other campers by not going too stupid or leaving your rubbish everywhere.

Ok, so...who's coming? :woot:

With only two weeks to go, I'm just trying to get an idea on amount of people coming to make sure our camping spot will be sufficent for the numbers...seems to be about 20 or so people are apparently making the trip so far...don't miss out, who else is coming?  :cunning:

Also, here is a small checklist to make sure you'll have everything you need:

Sleeping bag/blanket, pillow, tent, sunscreen, aeroguard, toilet paper, swimming shorts/bikini, towel, hoody/warmer clothes, stereo/mp3 player, camera, batteries, cooking/eating utensils, money, food/munchies, drink/alcohol/water, esky/ice, rubbish bags,...

The fire pits should be able to used for cooking, but feel free to bring a BBQ if you wish...there may be a small amount of drink and munchies provided, although be sure to bring enough supplies to last a couple of days, othrwise, there is the pub and general store back in town should you require more.
