While awards may not appeal to certain people I can say that it does draw interest from international / local labels and touring companies and that is what we are hoping to achieve. Regardless of if the band is underground or mainstream the goal is achieve financial viability in a tough market place. Bands that aren't in it for the money or as a career still need to make something to keep the band going as their is only so much that can be funnelled into recordings and gigs before the members decide it's just not feasable anymore.

So you'd rather some generic shit like Chaos Divine draw interest form international promoters (remember they are one more melodic death metal band in a long line of melodic death metal bands that no-one will remember in 5 years), rather than say Oroborous. Or Bane of Isildur for that matter?

It's applicable to any band, regardless of musical taste, isn't it?

Ouroboros picked up best unsigned band. I doubt there would be any category to win that would be more beneficial. What better way to get exposure to labels than to show we won best unsigned band.

Not sure if anon is a Perthbands fucker, but Im tipping by his attitude he is, and the fact that perthbands is currently suspended by its host leads me to believe that he's just filling in time trying to piss us off.

And how do you think Chaos Divine started out? instantly popular? These guys have worked their arses off for YEARS to get where they are. They deserve everything they get. Crawl back into your hole.

Working hard to suck is neither here nor there. You're upset because in your heart you know I'm right, but nobody has the guts to say it outright.

Damo?... come on, cheesy lyrics written in the 70s are acceptable, but in this day and age?
Perhaps, but remember, I did hard time in a power metal band, so cheesy lyrics have been something Ive never been allowed to escape :)

This is the least interesting argument ever.

You say this bloke is full of shit, then you all spend 15 minutes arguing your point?

Bunch of fucking retards.

Shut up.

15 minutes? that's an understatement.

haha, I hear you :) Power metal has always bee grandiose / over the top, though and the cheesy lyrics are usually intentional, like a real-life Spinal Tap (that's what I think anyway). I find them quite humorous. I doubt many melodic / death bands are actually trying to be funny or ironic when they write the sort of lyrics mentioned earlier (?)  :-\
That's a whole other "discussion" though.... :P

Oxymoron much?

The first thing I think of when I see a band name like Oroborous is Red Dwarf. :P

What you are failing to realise that music taste is 100% a matter of opinion. You could easily replace 'melodic death metal band' with 'grindcore' 'tech-death' or 'black metal band' etc. The list goes on forever. The markets for all are saturated so in the end the lifespan of your band depends on YOUR innovative imput and business sense just as much as your musical ability, even moreso depending on where you are on the globe. It's a bitter pill to swallow, especially if you're an ignorant meathead that thinks they have the fresh answers to end all worldly debate regarding underground metal.

How about this: fuck the venue, hire the PA and set up shop in a field somewhere or an abandoned wearhouse. But that just wouldn't be an awards night would it? Living in the shadow of the valley of public liability will most definitely not deliver you from temptation to play by somebody else's ridiculous rules.

You're not serious are you? You're that thick.. Give it a go and see what happens at every turn you missed out there in your fairy tale farmhouse bash.

With all the heavy metal businessmen here, one would think that Perth would be centre stage in international Metal?

My solutions relate only to reducing faggotry and AIDS through relentless trolling of metal meatheads, who think they know everything about everything because they listen to Pantera and Amon Amath.

expert is a bit rich. I wouldnt even come close to considering myself that. Thats not to say Im not metal-educated (that comes with 15+ years experience though), but its hard to call yourself an expert when you cant even play an instrument.

http://www.brismetal.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=449298&highlight=#449298

did anyone have a look at my friend or fiend anon669(not just a neighbour of the beast , but diagonally opposite)'s review of the AMA's he posted on BrisMetal.com? He/she/it, we'll presume he, from "the internet", was really keen for everyone to go and have a look at this, earlier in this (and other) forums, and if you haven't read it already, i'm going to take a moment to summarise, and elaborate where necessary and we can think about what kind of 'expert' we're dealing with...

i'll start by setting the scene... the 'artist', assuming the alias 'steve_mcfly' boasts being, by screen shot, banned from forums for assumingly dissing the AMA's efforts to promote aussie metal, then we find out that 'he' has a 'no junk mail' sign, doesn't like nazi's (which i find bizarre coz most of the BM kunts i know are either nazi's or bikies...) and owns a "nice Cannon camera"?

Already I'm thinking, this guy is confused... a BM nazi that lives with his mum(or elderly wife), attends anti-nazi rallies, and supports japanese commercialisation. but anyway, let us continue...

'He' got to the AMA early, not to seem too eager, but to see Bane of Isildor because they were "good" (not coz they tore the whole show into top gear \m/). 'He' didn't think they were too good though because of the sound. (or was it because their banner would never fit inside a corner/underground pub?) I then get the impression that 'he' is out of the "18-35 range" by the way 'he' describes the "{deliciously slutty} scene bicycle giving every arriving male in the 18-35 range hugs". Again, not a bad thing cos he's older than 35, just developing the character.

We then learn 'he' is bogan enough to go for a drive to the bottle'o rather than pay $6 for a drink, although this gets contradicted later. Then, 'he' describes Oroborous as being better before they are now better musicians? wtf (I apologise for my ignorance to Oroborous, but i don't know any of your Dred stuff, anywho, i thought you kicked ass, even after Bane of Isildor set such a high opening standard.).

'He' didn't like 5-star... maybe Adam made him dizzy, or maybe they played so tight that 'he' felt a little epeleptic.

So, let's summarise so far... 'he' is a 35+ yo, virgin, nazi, 'eastie'(in sydney lingo) bogan, living with mum, dissing bands 'he' only dreams about being in and that have worked hard enough to become better musicians and play on a stage that could accommodate a 10' banner.

This is where the review makes a turn towards browntown...

"Finally after an interlude at the Bavarian Bier Cafe drinking schnapps". -ooo la-di-phucking-da. I enjoy schnapps at bavarian bier halls but you can get phucked if you think i'm going to pay $6 for a beer?!?
Then on to Sadistik...
"See Rok made the smart decision circa 15 years ago to stop drinking". were you blind, or did you have your schnapps glasses on?
"As a result in his 40-odd years he still looks like a human being as opposed to a withered troll". was the word 'sexy' too gay for you at this point?
''He did look great on stage and his voice was excellent". you should've asked to go backstage, i'm sure the whole band would've gagged you, like a spastic-eagle. And if smoking a carton of cigarettes a day for 30 years is what makes an excellent voice, then it sure was excellent.
"My main complaint would be that...Rok was not wearing fishnet stockings" HA! what you meant to say is 'Rok would've looked sexier if he was wearing fishnet stockings', but that would've sounded that little bit more queer. I'm sure that image went straight into the wank-bank. gag, gag.

One thing I will agree with though, "it was a distinct pleasure to witness this event".

So now that we know what kind of expert anon66.9 is, i hope we can push 'him' back to 'his' underground cave to die, so that the rest of the metal community can move on.

A big salute \m/ to the Chaos boys and everyone that was nominated, you've all worked hard and it was great to hear some new bands that i've never heard of before, and that is what this event was for. Introducing everyone open-minded-enough-to-pay-attention to more great bands from our great country.

An even bigger salute \m/ to nat and mat (and everybody that made the show come together) for their hard work and perseverance, i hope a couple of bottom dwellers don't deter you from doing it again in years to come.

If Death Metal was 10 years ago, shouldn't we now call it Dead Metal?

A big salute m/ to the Chaos boys and everyone that was nominated, you've all worked hard and it was great to hear some new bands that i've never heard of before, and that is what this event was for. Introducing everyone open-minded-enough-to-pay-attention to more great bands from our great country.

An even bigger salute m/ to nat and mat (and everybody that made the show come together) for their hard work and perseverance, i hope a couple of bottom dwellers don't deter you from doing it again in years to come.

If Death Metal was 10 years ago, shouldn't we now call it Dead Metal?

Ahaha, oh mercy. You are the exact sort of dumbass that will take the bait.

Combining the best of metal dipshit cliches into one neat package; grind, violence towards women, brilliant detective work and outstanding humour involving accusations of poseurism, reducto ad hitlerium and homosexuality (oh no - can't do without that one). Well-done mate. Hey do you wear a helmet, when using the internets? You should, in case you hurt yourself. Also - careful with those metal sluts, you might get something just from those hugs.
