Want old Lego
« on: November 19, 2009, 04:31:54 AM »
Alright, get it over with.
Finished laughing?  NO?  I can wait.

Done?  Cool.

A coupla months back I started building my kids a Lego city in my workshop.  I used the Lego I had as a tacka - about 20kg of the stuff -  and the secondhand bits I have picked up at swapmeets and new over the last couple of years.  This city is getting BIG, but now I have started, I really don't want to stop.  It is no longer about the kids anymore, I'm now doing it for me.  Sheeeeeeiiiit, nobody told me how addictive it is.  I dunno if it the construction, early onset of senility or the escape from stress that I am enjoying most, but I don't want to stop.  I am however running low on useful pieces and I want to keep on building, and ebay is just too fucking slow.

If you have some old lego you don't have any personal attachment to or you just want to rip off your little brother, get back to me.  I don't care about particular models, series', instructions or consistency, it just has to be genuine lego (not that megablocks crap) and not dog chewed and/or melted out of shape.  I don't know much about pricing, but I will do my best to pay a fair price for it, either by kilo or set.

You may now berate me unmercifully, not that it will diminish my enjoyment for a second.   ;D

It's coming, I promise.  I need a bit more time yet.

Currently the cityscape is about 5.5 metres long by 600mm wide, built on a long shelf.  That might not sound that big, but in lego terms it is pretty large.  There is enough room there for a police station, a fire station, a hospital, a garage, 6 or so independant houses, a hotel, a petrol station, a church/graveyard, a coastguard rescue base, a small resturant, a couple of seperate shops, a depot for big construction equipment, a train station (sorry, trains don't run, there isn't enough track for that), a handful of ships, assorted smaller boats, 7 helicopters and planes, about 50 assorted vehicles varying from huge cranes to motorbikes, a hundred or so figurines....

You get the idea: I have a problem.

This creates an interesting visual of a disgruntled Jez angrily playing with leggo at 3 in the morning, refusing to 'come to bed'. ;D

Yeah, it sure is popular, hence this topic.  It seems to go at an average of $40 a kilo, but prices can vary dramatically.

As you would.  I find myself giggling at the absurdity of the situation from time to time.  It really doesn't suit me at all, but there it is.    ;D

It took Lego to tell you that?  :P

Lego is awesome, I've been reading a few Lego based webcomics lately. It's amazing just how much you can do with some Lego and an imagination.

Sounds like a cool project. How anally colour coded is it? Thats one thing that always pissed me off about Lego, was never having enough matching pieces and having to resort to building multi-coloured buildings. My Lego playing days turned into a career as a builder.... yeah, I loved that shit too. Pity I dont have any left.

Lego kicks arse, I wouldn't feel to embarrassed Jezz, I to indulge in a bit of Lego building with the kids but I have to admit our scalextric is taking priority now, when it's finished I'll stick some picks up, it's fucken huge.

Jezz do you remember the Star Wars Lego show they had in Perth about 20 years ago? that was kick arse. they had a few different themes but the year it was Star Wars themed was the best...

I'm sure we have some lying around from when little cousins used to come over... they don't anymore and it's probably got 3 inches of dust on it but if I can dig it out (and the folks are happy for me to give it away... considering technically it's all theirs)... you can have it for a beer or 2 (you judge how much what I give is worth) next time you see me out (which could be yeeaars from now ;) )

Done and done.   ;D ;D ;D   I'll make it work your while.

Yeah, I remember a star wars expo and a few lego ones too from waaaaay back, but I can't remeber a star wars lego expo.  The current Star Wars lego is a massive seller, it looks brilliant.  I have picked up a few pieces myself.

It blows my mind when I see things like this being sold:

 or this 7000 piece monster.

Mindboggling.

OMG  we used to have so much lego when I was a kid.  Our city filled up a whole room and included all the necessities (airport, petrol stations, race track, cop shop, roads, trains, outer space, pirate ship.  Shit I think we even had planes hanging from the ceiling.)
...unfortunately as we got older it got left to its own devices and the inhabitants went a bit nuts.

Fuck I miss that shit.

Table sounds great dude, and thanks for that, but my shed shelving is all cut to fit the walls and a table just aint gonna fit.  .

A few people had cameras in the shed last night, spinning out on it all.  Maybe one of them can stick some pics up.

I see that black scalectrics(?) racetrack stuff constantly at swapmeets - I saw a box of the stuff last Sunday - but I don't pick it up for any of you collectors because there seems to be different track styles out there and I don't want to buy the shit for someone and get stuck with it.  Give me some idea of what I should be looking for and what is a reasonable price and I will start hooking it for you guys.
