Does W.A. have any power metal?
« on: January 15, 2010, 11:18:31 PM »
Maybe you WAlians (geddit?) can answer me this: what is Perth's power metal metal scene like? Are there any good power metal bands floating around or does it need some? Well, either way it needs some cos you can never have too many dragons or too much steel. Anyone, cheers for your info provided I get some.

There certainly is a shortage of power metal in Perth, actually there is a shortage of all kinds of metal here except for death metal which seems to be the only thing people want to play these days :err:

Give me wizards and dragons any day!

Yeah there really aren't (geddit?) that many power metal bands in the scene these days.

Although I believe 'dparker' and 'ecentrix' were involved in a progressive power metal project at some point, dunno what happened with that ...

Can only really think of Lacrymae, Trident Winter and Black Steel... and none of them really play anything like European Power Metal.

It's coming out of hiatus now (although the keyboard player is due to return from the US), and we may have found ourselves a vocalist. It's really bending more towards progressive than power at this stage though. :-\
We're still in the songwriting phase, so yeah, don't hold your breath for too long. ;D

There's one on this forum, for starters. Out of curiosity, what instrument(s) do you play?

We have death metal bands?

Yeah, power metal is a shortage in Perth and Australia really. Just no market for it here.

We are still doing what we love though.

I for one am not a huge fan of the whole european power metal scene myself. I prefer the thrashier/speed side o things, say like Hibria and Helstar. Cheesy, technical, fast with soaring vocals. As long as it's nothing like Dragonforce.

Wel; there is Blacksteel and Trident Winter. I'm not sure if Voyager is Power or Prog. Claim the Thorne might be, they do have the MediEvil outfits and they have swords for props.  Altho CTT are more like a bunch of beer swilling Braveharts than a cheesy powermetal band. :-\

Voyager?
Vagrancy wasn't it? That's gonna look real good on his grave stone in Arlington: Here lies John Rambo, winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor, survivor of countless incursions behind enemy lines. Killed for vagrancy in Jerkwater, USA.

I am a damn fool for not checking this forum for classifieds first!
I play guitar, rhythm or lead, depending on how accomplished my counterpart is   ;)

Voyager?

Not since the first album...

I thought Black steel and Trident Winter were more NWBHM than Power metal..

Come to the Evolution Machine band launch gig at the Civic on Feb 13 and decide for yourself  8) :eyebrows:

I assume the thread starter is after current bands? There isn't many, but in addition to the 3 mentioned above there's a few more i know of:

Well, apparantly Rawkus is on the go again. I don't how popular they were over there, but for a time they had a bit of a buzz happening in the Aus metal scene. They have elements of power metal, for sure, old school style heavy metal/power style stuff though
http://www.myspace.com/rawkus_oz

And a couple of more sort of amatuer bands, although the Raven's Head chick has a pretty decent voice
Mysteria http://www.myspace.com/mysteriaonline
Raven's Head http://www.myspace.com/ravenshead1

But yeah, none of these bands play the proggy Euro style stuff really, but they exist at least haha

All their songs were Gamma Ray ripoffs.

Alright, so to bring this back to the original question...

No.
