You should make up a faux blood mixture (with thicker consistency so it doesn't just run off while you're taking shots) to coat the hearts to give them a more bloody and glossy finish.
Hey, while you're at it, why not do the candy apple thing, shove a heart on a stick and give it a candy coating.
