First post. Sorry if it comes across as a whinge.

But seriously... do Perth crowds have a religious objection moshing?

I go to metal gigs to vent my weekly frustrations by ruining my body in a mighty maelstrom of moshing morons (oh, how I love alliteration :D), not to stand at the back of the venue with a glass of piss and a sneer as I sit in judgement on whatever band happens to be playing. It's pathetic, and I'm a fat prick in my forties. I can't believe how weak and pantywaist all you bony-arsed 20-year-olds are.

Seriously, this is not a metal scene if we're not moshing. Somehow I don't think the average band wants polite applause and apathy as a standard response.

So I'm starting a club. It has the same name as this post - the Moshpit Mafia. If anyone wants in, say so, and let's get the fucking party started.

Convene here, choose a gig, show up, pay the cover, and announce our presence on the floor. Simple as pi. Hopefully the critical mass gets all the apathetic fucksticks and posers into the mood and gets the joint permanently smelling of sweat and blood.

But for what it's worth, I want to seriously try and keep this crew tool/douchebag/dumbcnut-free, so if you can't respect people, gear, bands, venue, etc., this is not your gig. But if you can hold onto your brain while getting wild and crazy inside the moshiverse, let's get this shit started, fuckers.

I prefer to listen to and watch the band carefully. How am I supposed to steal ideas from the band if I'm moshing all the time? ;D
I do go to the front and mosh now and then. But thats so I can get a squiz at the gear the guitarists and bassists are using.

Depends on the band playing. Some times I'll get into it, but more often than not I'm quite happy to just watch a band. When I finally get around to getting contact lenses, that might change though. Very hard to mosh with glasses on, and very hard to see the bands without them.

Echoing IG's sentiments, just depends on the band and the mood they're putting me in. Sometimes I stand at the bar swilling a beer, others I'm tearing off my shirt and stomping around in the mud at an unnamed Slovenian festival :P

Fuck man, did anyone else here go to Converge? They had a kerraaazyyy pit, whole body was covered in bruises the next day

Don't be fooled.  I've lost my share of lenses in the mosh.  That is one of the reasons I prefer to watch others go mad in the pit these days.

These days i only mosh to bands i really like. Usually overseas bands like Dying Fetus or Decapitated.
Other bands i enjoy i just stand and headbang.

I fucking hate hardcore dancers, i can't believe they get tolerated in a metal pit. Like at Psycroptic.

Most of the international bands though, you will get a decent mosh. Like Amon Amarth and Deicide.

Local gigs, i usually see the same guys front row headbanging though.

To be fair as well......some bands don't deserve moshing if they are playing total shit.

you get a better view of equipment front and center even if your trying to hold your ground and the "intricacies" of metal (what ever the fuck that means!!!) can be veiwed and heard front and center, most Perth bands deserve that sort of crowd interaction, and the ones deemed "shit" well if you mosh hard enough you wont care coz you wont hear/steal/equipment gaze the band, you'll be too busy BEING A FUCKING FAN OF METAL!!!

I'm with Smitty - if I enjoy the band I'll get up the front and have a bit of a mosh and if they're shit i'll stand up the back and do my own thing. Don't see what consequence it is to you anyway, everyone enjoys metal in different ways - doesn't mean we have to draw a line in the sand.
