Everyone has their favourite album, and it becomes to be for quite a number of reasons. It may of lured you into the world metal, it may of been played at a particular time, it may just be really
great, or all three  ;D. What is that album for you?

For me, it is Opeth's Blackwater Park. I listened to a bit of metal here and there before I listened to this album, but I never immensely listened to it.  This album changed everything.  A masterpiece from start to finish, but it reaches it's zenith with 'The Drapery Falls', which is my favourite song of all time, full stop.

Re you serious?  ONE album?  Fucking hell.

Guns and Roses "Apertite for Destruction" is still one of my faves after almost twenty years, not sure if you would call it metal though.

Haha hey Zarrix. I met you on the Ultimatemetal forums awhile ago and I've got you on my last.fm list as a friend. My handle on UM and Lastfm is Episteme.

There are 2 albums that completely made me listen to metal in a completely different way about 6 years ago. They are Deathspell Omega's Si Monumentum Requires Circumspce and The Chasm's Conjuration of the Spectral Empire. I didn't know black metal could be so fiery, dissonant and intelligent without the bathroom production and corny satanic lyrics until I heard DSO. The Chasm are the perfect blend of well structured songs, melody and technique without wankery without sacrificing the aggression of old school thrash and death metal.

...and on the other a soldier with a bullet wound in his lower belly and his sphincter shot away so that his faeces are leaking out. The smell of excrement mingles with that of the scorching flesh of the corpses being burned in the distance.

Gorgasm - Stabwound Intercourse.

Or perhaps...

Macabre - Murder Metal.
My hands are choking, my knife is broken.
An orgasm is what I need.
Your blood is spilling, the sight is thrilling.
To cum I need to see you bleed.

Decapitated - Nihility

I just remember being stoned in the back of a car tripping out to all these sick riffs/songs. Finally opening my eyes to great death metal, when before i had only been listening to nu-metal and metalcore.

Haha, hello again  :D

Ocean Machine: Biomech

This is right at the top of the tree for me as well.  I've listened to this album almost every day for the last few months.   Such an energetic first few songs, then the more matured second half of the album.  I think it perfectly captures the progression of life.

Im with you Jez. In saying that, if it doesnt count as metal (which, back when it was released, it wasnt... it was viewed as a hybrid between metal and punk)...

Metallica - ...And Justice For All. First metal album I ever got, and it was the gateway for me between Gunners and real metal. I owe it all to that CD.
