Re you serious?  ONE album?  Fucking hell.

Guns and Roses "Apertite for Destruction" is still one of my faves after almost twenty years, not sure if you would call it metal though.

Im with you Jez. In saying that, if it doesnt count as metal (which, back when it was released, it wasnt... it was viewed as a hybrid between metal and punk)...

Metallica - ...And Justice For All. First metal album I ever got, and it was the gateway for me between Gunners and real metal. I owe it all to that CD.

:headbang: dammit, i thought i wouldve been the first to list JUSTICE but u beat me again to it Haydz! ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL ended up in my hands in 1999 in the form of cassette. i thought id check out some Metallica and bought it at random, the cassette's fold out bit only just covering the year of release, i thought it was 1999 but it was "1989" haha. i was disappointed at first coz i bought an old record but after the first couple of heavy notes on BLACKENED i was hooked. AJFA didnt leave me cassette deck for nearly a year and a half, me learning every note, every solo on guitar. i bought every other record since then, and though the earlier albums before it are genius, this record provided me with what i consider the pinnacle of creativity in writing metal - dynamics, progressions, feel. years and years down the line, everytime i put this record on it reminds me of why i play this music, why i became a guitar player and songwriter, and why i love metal as a whole.
fuck i love that record.

so you were 13 years old when it fell into your hands? Me too, and pretty much the same story. It was a random buy... the 3rd CD I ever owned in fact. Had no idea what to expect, having only heard Black album previously and didnt really dig it much. The week I bought Justice was the first week in about 3 years that there wasnt a Gunners album in my stereo.

And the Mirror Cracked by Disillusion

Opening track of an album that I probably spent far too much time listening to. Hadn't listened to it in about 10 months or so and just recently gave it a bash and it's as good as ever.

Awesome.

Oh wow, that was my number two.  Closely followed by Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power and Slayer's....well every album really.

Death - Symbolic
Vagrancy wasn't it? That's gonna look real good on his grave stone in Arlington: Here lies John Rambo, winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor, survivor of countless incursions behind enemy lines. Killed for vagrancy in Jerkwater, USA.

metallica- ride the lightning and pantera- cowboys from hell would be the two albums that got me listening to metal back when i was 13 or so, when i first heard songs like creeping death, ride the lightning, domination, the art of shredding ect, they gave me goose bumbs, and they still do all these years later :headbang:

OPETH IS FOR FAGGGOTS IF YOU DON'T LIDTEN TO SLAYOR YOU ARE HOMO!

Pretty sure I can't remember writing that.

Decapitated - Nihility

I just remember being stoned in the back of a car tripping out to all these sick riffs/songs. Finally opening my eyes to great death metal, when before i had only been listening to nu-metal and metalcore.

+1

I remember listening to sphere of madness when I was stoned off my head I'm being amazed by it.

Haha.. the more you think about it the more a resemblance starts to take form... That's Dan on the left, then obviously a matured (and trimmed) Jordan, Luke in the middle, Matt on the far right, I guess leaving Jack at the back.

I'd say it was probably "...And Justice For All" for me as well in terms of starting points for metal. 1 of the first 2 cds I ever bought and it opened my eyes to so much.

Since Pet Sounds isn't a metal album.... 8)
Justice For All is a big one for me too. Same story as well. I stole the cassette from my brother when I was 12 or 13. I also distinctly remember getting up at 6am when I was 8 to watch the Nothing Else Matters clip on Rage (obviously not a metal song... but Metallica were the stepping stone into metal for me). Besides Justice, other all time favourites include Killing is my Business, Rust In Peace and maybe even Jester Race.

Sensing a common theme here. and justice for all has to be it for me, was the first album i bought and is still rad. Honourable mention to The Pigram Bros. - Saltwater Country, for being deadset legends.

Iron Maiden's Debut album. In particular "Phantom of the opera".
Opened up a whole new (and much better) world for me and I will FINALLY get to hear it performed live at the end of the month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
