I get the idea it wasn't one made up for money making purposes, rather exposure purposes....
The question is, are bands ready to cough up for exposure and not direct money back - but possible money back in the future via more attendance at gigs and more album purchases....?
i reckon $130 is fuck all for abit of exposure , 1/8 page ads in xpress cost $200ish and do very little for the band. whereas 500 cds around town and overeast presents a very good marketing and exposure strategy .
but the problem is by giving it away for free u risk people wasting the 500 cds by being selfish and taking one to many cds for themselves , and alot of people will miss out. i know from experience that when a band gives out a free demo a lot of them get wasted in the bin or chucked away just because it's free, not too mention heaps of people take advantage of the situation.
i reckon chuck 30secs -1min samples of each band on a specifically created myspace/pure volume account would be a good way to expose such bands.
if u guys are serious about this , i'll be keen to get the ball rollling ,i'll speak to dyson about it. i 'm sound engineer as well so i'll be able to master all the tracks at either MGM mastering studio or another place for less than what u would pay for someone else .
also i'm sure Ryan from chaos divine would be good to do the artwork as well.
