Anti Virus
« on: July 21, 2010, 04:35:10 AM »
Nothing to do with sound advice, but i just bought a new computer and i was wondering what you would all recommend to use as Anti virus software. Preferably something free that will do the job and not slow down my computer to buggery (looking squarely at you Norton).

Cheers

Avast cos it talks to you. Plus Spybot and Adaware. Not necessarily the only good ones but they work good and don't waste your comp.

AVG seems to be pretty common.

I prefer having a program like avast or avira that auto update, plus they just seem like generally better programs, haven't used AVG in a few years though.

Avast > AVG

The last version of AVG Free I installed had an expiry period, Avast doesn't. AVG also tended to perform scans when I didn't want it to, and was hard to customise. Avast FTW

Yah, alot of way better programs have come out since AVG.  I used it for years but now use Avira and a-squared.

The one that Microsoft currently offers for free is pretty damn good. Did well in tests compared to AVG etc. Running it on a few PC's, doesn't really have much of a system footprint, and seems to have picked up everything that the others do (Also its spyware and adware built in as well)
