Studio Monitor Recommendations
« on: August 09, 2010, 02:20:44 AM »
I'm looking to buy a pair of studio monitors so I can stop mixing with headphones.  The room is small, 2.2m square with a strangely shaped roof.  Not ideal but its all I've got to work with.  If anyone has experience with small monitors, let me know if you have some recommendations.  Looking in the sub -$1k range.  I would prefer active monitors with a full range so I don't need a sub.

just so happens i have a set of 4 inch KRK V4's i dont use anymore. only had em about a year before i got some others.
Nothing wrong with em i just wanted slightly bigger ones.
Theyre powered with clip and a limiter switch on back. They are really good actually. nice and flat with not much colour adding. you'd be surprised the punch they have for smaller ones. They have a kevlar cone.

could be perfect for your room. you can have for 4 hungy.  ;)

as for brand name mentions, KRK, EMES, JBL are all good. there are heaps out there.
like you say, you should really be looking to get the appropriate size and sound for your room.
avoid anything that colours the sound too much. in an untreated room the last thing you want too much bass colouration coming from your mons.
