Allegiance, Metallica, and the 1990s
« on: September 06, 2010, 10:32:12 PM »
Is my memory failing me in my old age, or did Allegiance open for Metallica at the Perth Entertainment Centre in 1993?

Tell me I'm not losing my mind, and that this actually happened.

They supported, but I believe they were playing in the foyer, and not on the main stage.

They supported Pantera on their first tour downunder and were about 100 times better than them.

Pantera seemed more concerned with mucking around with roadies and getting footage for a new video than playing a good show that year  :err:

That's bloody awesome man!

I think Mortal Sin supported them for the eastern state shows. Well they did in 1989 for sure.

Agreed...To much pissy ranting at that show for sure!
Allegiance also supported Faith No More at the Charles Hotel in 1990. I think the singer back then was John instead of Conrad (EvilElvis, Harro...help me out here  ;D)

I saw it too and I agree. I remember talking to a couple of the guys a few weeks later and they said they were amazed how many people had told them how much better they were than Pantera.

But overall Pantera are about 100 times better than Allegiance.

I also went to the Metallica\Kyuss gig. If Metallica still put on a live show like they did that night I'd think about paying to see them again.

I was at the 2nd 93 Metallica concert and I don't recall seeing Allegiance. Only Kyuss. I remember seeing Allegiance supporting Pantera in 94.

I seem to recall reading something in the Xpress in 1991 about Allegiance losing their original singer to the Law. What happened and is he still in jail?

John did do some porridge for a few months. Seems both vocalists did  :err:

Don't know where Mihos is at present. He was a cool guy and looked like C.Manson.

Last time I spoke to him he was trying to convince me how great Jamiroquai was

Fondly remember those early Allegiance gigs at the Charles, including the FNM one. I think Allegiance filmed a live video at the FNM show, you can see my 19 year old head bangin down the front. Patton got his cock out on stage.

Kyuss were sole support for Metallica in 93, and they ruled. I mentioned that tour to Nick Oliveri when The Devil supported Mondo and he said one of his biggest regrets was exiting Kyuss just prior to the Australian tour with Metallica (Scott Reeder was on bass).

I was pretty disgusted with that Panetra concert, mind you it was mainly Anselmo at fault, he was out of his mind on something / several things and was a total twat. Thought the band still played well though.

Good times.

I actually had a ticket for the first show and i was the happiest 16 year old!!!
Then we had to move overseas 2 weeks before the gig and i had to sell my ticket :'( :'( a sad moment as i didnt see them till 98 in slovenia.
i got a review from the paper for the gig tho. newstead had shaved his head...
i heard they played their last song for the night, people were leaving and then an eerie green light came on and hetfield started playing the intro riff to sandman and the crowd went bonkers...
was this true?

ALLEGIANCE played with Pantera a couple of times and are also featured briefly on one of their Vulgar videos.

METALLICA did not use any Australian support acts, I think they had an Australian busker in the foyer.

Yes ALLEGIANCE played with FAITH NO MORE in 1990 (Real thing tour), the singer you are talking about was only in the band for a very short time, like a few months until Conrad stepped in, most people don't remember or know that line up as the band didnt really do much until those guys left.

ALLEGIANCE also played on the first national tours for FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, KREATOR, SLAYER, ROB HALFORD FIGHT (Rob was managing the band at the time), shows with MORBID ANGEL, CARCASS, SOUNDGARDEN, SEPULTURA, KISS, CHANNEL ZERO, SOUNDGARDEN, MUDHONEY, BEASTIE BOYS.. ofF the top of my head..
