Electronic Music
« on: September 24, 2010, 06:52:03 PM »
On Western Front it is probably considered a dirty word but I am curious if anyone in the scene gets into Electronic music (Electronic is a very broad term so I'm not referring to *DOOF DOOF*)?

I also find it interesting that certain high profile members of the early black metal movement are very open about liking electronic music.

Metalheads on drugs = not-so-closet techno fiends. I have watched many metalheads slip over to the dark side over the years.

I'm not big on electronic music in general, but my love of synth pop is no secret.

Electronic music is so very broad.. Personally I really like EBM / Aggrotech & I don't do drugs plus still enjoy metal..

I also really enjoy electronic music that goes in more of an experimental direction. The best example would be later era Ulver.

Eloise you know we have equal love for synth pop & that is no secret.

i like classical, big themey type electronic music. gotta be dark or evil, uplifting kick you in the face feeling and dynamic.
I also really dig electronic percussive samples behind metal tracks, not necessarily drum sounds, actually preferabley not. again it has to sound cutting.

I know you stated not DOOF,
but i would just like to say i really fucking hate DOOf, but in particular, i hate covers of old and uptodate radio genres and classics done in DOOF. you know the ones you see at the gym with some fucking hot chick miming the lyrics to?
tis the only time i really hate fucking hot latex wearing hotties.

Electronic is good. My side project Metaphusika is part electronic. Hence the MIDI\.... thread I started.

Sometimes doof is good in my opinion. Hardcore techno is good too.

But nothing is as good as black metal.

^ Agreed, also James Plotkins Atomsmasher.

I think if it has a 'metal' connection to it, people will give it more of a chance. Some of the ambient/electronic/whatever stuff ranging from Wongraven, Ulver, Scorn etc

That Ulver album didn't really impress me much.

I have some new music to check out now.

Ulver is extremely boring to me, even their so called 'best' albums.

Ambient music is extremely good, especially when you aren't in the mood for some metal for whatever reason, or you just want to wind down. Dark Ambient shouldn't be forgotten either, Raison d'etre, Atrium Carceri (among others) are extremely good. Oh and Biosphere for a plain old ambient artist.

As for Synth Pop, Royksopp aren't all that bad.

Metalheads on drugs = not-so-closet techno fiends. I have watched many metalheads slip over to the dark side over the years.

This unfortunately :(. The friend that introduced me to metal only listens to remixes and DOOF rubbish. Needless to say, I no longer have contact with him, for that reason perhaps among many others.

Holy shit I hate that album. I'd rather listen to Tool with Lars Ulrich drumming than listen to Demanufacture. That's real hate people.

While I'm in this thread...

There are only two awesome electronic bands/artists in the world. They are Nunwhore Commando 666 and TISM.

Im sure you didn't mean it but the way you said that made it seem like you only associate with people that like metal? Feel free to correct me.

most of my good mates from high school are big into drum and bass and dub step type stuff, its not too bad, kinda cool going to a party there and there are always decks set up with almost everyone at the party having a spin. The stuff the listen to is pretty dark like noisia, amon tobin and stuff like that, been to a couple of their gigs and went to a big international dnb gig once, was pretty cool. need to be in a different state but.. some of the dub step is wicked and pretty heavy drum beats.. is not to bad
