Advice on buying new rig.
« on: December 17, 2010, 06:22:25 AM »
Thinking of buying an Ampeg BA300 1X15" Combo 300W.

http://www.kosmic.com.au/Bass/AMPEG/3291?Ampeg+BA300+1X15\%22+Combo+300W

Any reason why I shouldn't? Anything better in this price range?

Looks good to me, im not a bass man but ampeg is solid for sure. So much so, that it might be worth looking for a second handy.

Have you played thru one yet?

Cool, i bought a guitar this year from Kosi's and knocked em down down a fair bit on it, RRP 1899, i think i got it for 1399. No biggie as it wouldve been overpriced anway, but they probably wanted 1500 for it.

especially being xmas right now, you should be able to knock some off it.

You probably already know all this, just chucking in my 2c.

Sounds good man!
Sansamp/Ampeg all the way.

Music Retailers charge retail or less. Music Wholesalers are the ones that make things overpriced in Australia in comparison to other countries :)

You're exactly right Goat, you'd be retarded to pay the Aus retail for any musical product in any shop. Hell... at the moment I'm having a hard time discouraging people to buy online as our RRP is so ridiculous in comparison to the US on ANY product.

Hmmm... "Should I buy a Hughes and Kettner for $8500 in a shop or buy online for $3800 shipped including step down tranny. Come on Aussie wholesalers. Wake the fuck up. Your killing our industry. Rant over.

When the U.S is up shit creek without a paddle and our Dollar is rated around paridy, you'd be mad not to take advantage.

But yeah Janitor, even before the US took a dive, i was buying mics and shit from there for 25% less than here, shipped.

I got a SM7b for 490 AUD. shipped. while they wanted 700 ish "before" shipping over East.

Youre right! Do they wanna sell their shit or not?
Sometimes you just gotta move stuff to make money instead of being a hardass.
Not that i know much about how retail works, but seems legit to me.

Agreed.
My Pittbull UL was $5900 here just for the head. I got one landed for just over $2000 before the dollar kicked ass & it didn't need a stepdown as the trannie is multi tap, just snip 2 wires, solder & a fuse change.
Same with my line 6 wireless & most of my good gear.
