emg pickups

hi mate
Just picked up a epiphone explorer it has EMG 81 and 60 in it.There was alot of background hissing and buzzing goin on on high gain channel but soon as i touched the volume knobs or input jack it would stop so i figured its a earthing problem in the guitar.I noticed the bridge wire wasnt earthed so i earthed it and it fixed the problem but after lookin up the emg website it says not to earth the the bridge wire.Just wanderin if its safe to leave it earthed as it seems to have fixed the problem or could there be something else wrong with the guitar thanks

The bridge ground shouldnt be there. There is something else wrong with the circuit.
