i could never possibly hate most things metal, this band is ok.
for me though, im getting reall sick of glory "guitar songs'.

Everyone does em all the time, its fuckn boring, it makes songs long winded and they seem to miss good structure/strategy these days.

Save the awesome shit for select parts, and get on with pieceing together a song structure with clever build up points.(not nec guitar riff driven)

fuck me that was more long winded than a long winded guitar solo.

anyway just my opinion.

I cant say much, the shit i write isnt heading that way.

Its just riffs with no thought behind em, where theyre going, or worse, where theyve been already.

They take awesome guitar riffs and just tarnish them by just blasting the cunts the whole time, it so boring.

I must be one lucky Son of a Bitch cause 30 years after breaking in my Virgin Ears with Iron Maiden's "Killers" ,i'm still getting it! It's not gonna make everyone's Organ quiver,but it did mine! Too many people get hung up with is it this genre or that genre,or this has been done or that has been done. I don't think it's new but try Drudkh. I've also been listening to a lot of Hour of Penance. Easily one of the most brutal and well versed bands I've heard in a long time. Way more brootal than SYLOSIS.

Hour of Penance,their "Paradogma" album is well worth a listen. I've been on the look out for a copy on Picture Disc Vinyl,that artwork is wasted on CD format!

Cheers for that Grim, might get that album. Its not what i would listen to all the time, but it has something about it that works.

This is what i was kinda getting at before.

Im thinking the market now is really, really saturated, so much more so now, that it can get out to so many more people, and more quickly than ever before. Is probably why i see much more shit with little to offer.

I guess the up and coming heavyweights have it that much harder now before they get really noticed.

I reckon one of the things about the market being saturated is that bands have to work harder and in turn the only bands that rise above the rest either have mega budgets and\or mega good songs. The best bands are the ones you reccomend to your friends. Even great image\advertising doesn't write good songs so I'm going with the latter.

Though polished turds seem to go far in this industry of late, but then they do just disappear one day.

I think metal fans, as a general rule, tend to spend too much time analysing what's "good" and "bad" about a band, rather than just listening to it and having an instinctive reaction.

I'm not gonna claim not to be guilty myself but when I first listened to this album, before I knew what haircuts they had or clothes they wore, before rating how "happy" it sounded or wondering what other bands they might sound like, before judging it's originality on a scale of Opeth to Trivium, I thought it kicked arse.

See the thing about that is I didn't like the music straight out. I'm some-what of a purist. I don't care what haircut a band has or what clothes they wear or what country they came from or if they wear or don't wear corpsepaint or it's marketed at a particular age\culture etc. Music comes first. If I like it I'll listen to it. I just didn't like the music. But if YOU like it go for it. I've got no problem with that.

Your the best person to decide, this takes some analysis. An instinctive reaction is directed by outside forces, marketing, fashion, culture postion etc. But as I said I'm some-what a purist.

I like to have a few bands, where i will follow their journey over the years, ones i can really get into, and relate to.

Most of all, ones i can look up to musicaly and go fuck man, these guy's are just doing something somehow thats better than everything else to me right now.
I cant put my finger on it, and i dont wanna, its just fuckn killer.

Hasnt been a real cracker for a while for me, so i suess thats why i'm picky and pull the piss out of new bands that dont do it for me.
