According to Australia's long-running rock station Triple M, there are rumblings of a VAN HALEN headlining tour of Australia taking place early next year.

Triple M music reporter Nui Te Koha told the Hot Breakfast two promoters have gone in and spoken to VAN HALEN management following last week's cancelation of the Soundwave Revolution festival, which VAN HALEN was set to co-headline.

"This will be an arena tour," he revealed. "VAN HALEN has got an album coming out really soon. Two promoters have gone in and said, 'This Soundwave Revolution thing was a debacle. We want to tour the band and it will happen early next year.'"

VAN HALEN was supposed to play five shows in Australia in late September and early October as part of the Soundwave Revolution festival, but the entire event was abruptly scrapped by the promoters, who cited the exit of a second, unnamed headliner and low ticket sales as the reasons for the plug being pulled.

The festival's lineup also included ALICE COOPER, HELLYEAH, HOLE, BAD RELIGION, ALTER BRIDGE and PANIC! AT THE DISCO, among others.

Australia's Triple M Radio reported that AEROSMITH was the second headliner that promoters were trying to secure, but were unable to do so.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, one theory suggested that the cancellation was the fault of another act rumored to be on the bill, LIMP BIZKIT. But singer Fred Durst was quick to shoot that down, saying online, "We were never on the bill to play any festival down under. So it looks like VAN HALEN cancels and we get thrown into the mix."

There was in fact a lot of speculation that VAN HALEN itself pulled out of the festival, but the Van Halen News Desk reported adamantly that the band had nothing to do with the cancellation of the event.

The Australian shows would have been VAN HALEN's first since its reunion tour with singer David Lee Roth wrapped up in the summer of 2008.

Florida metallers TRIVIUM have been confirmed for next year's edition of Australia's Soundwave Festival (not to be confused with the recently canceled offshoot event, Soundwave Revolution), which will take place in February/March.

The exact dates are as follows:

Saturday, February 25 - Brisbane
Sunday, February 26 - Sydney
Friday, March 2 - Melbourne
Saturday, March 3 - Adelaide
Monday, March 5 - Perth

Other rumored acts for next year's Soundwave include DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT, SHADOWS FALL, CKY, THE SMOKING HEARTS, FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS and MADINA LAKE.

Just heard most of the metal bands from revolution will be at sw2012 including dev, machine head and gojira plus a heap more. They also just announced Counter Revolution but its basically just a smaller mini-festival with all the shitty bands, no metal.

Soundwave Revolution are gearing up to announce their post-cancellation mini-festivals for Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide tonight, with information for Sydney and Perth mid-next week.

Information has been seeping out of the festival?s administration event since the cancellation of the inaugural Soundwave Revolution event, with the first official announcement set to be revealed this evening.

Bands are believed to had three options following the cancellation; wait until Soundwave 2012; tour their own headline dates; or be involved in ?mini-festivals? around the country.

Festival promoter AJ Maddah told Your Daily SPA this afternoon that details for mini festivals in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide will be announced tonight.

Information on the headline shows for Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide will be announced Monday.

Sydney and Perth details will be announced mid-next-week.

The mini festivals are expected to be indoor evening events, not unlike the slew of Sidewaves which visit cities during the Soundwave tour.

Maddah was been active on his Twitter account, replying to queries from fans. From those responses, it seems that The Used, Hole, Danzig, Trivium, Dashboard Confessional, Shadows Fall, Devin Townsend, CKY, Framing Hanley and more will be waiting until Soundwave 2012 to tour.

15 to 20 out of the 60 bands for Soundwave 2012 will be Revolution refugees.

The festival dates are believed to be;

Brisbane: Saturday 25 February
Sydney: Sunday 26 February
Melbourne: Friday 2 March
Adelaide: Saturday 3 March
Perth: Monday 5 March
