CD Recommendations
« on: October 15, 2011, 08:26:41 AM »
hey all, i am sick of looking through endless amounts of shit bands trying to find new stuff to add to my collection. i am having a shit run of goood metal bands to listen too. So i wanted to put up a cd recomendations post and see who recomends what and why, not just for myself but anyone and everyone, so feel free to leave suggestions no matter the genre, sub genre, sub sub crossover genre ect.

i'll get the ball rolling,

Annotations of an Autopsy - The Reign of Darkness,

just happened to stumble across it the other day and is a fucking good death metal cd. A real good cross between Morbid Angel - Domination and Cannibal Corpse - Bloodthirst with a touch of Hate eternal - king of all kings and Nile - darkened shrines, about it, so a fucking good listen (for a change) up loud.

let us know any others.
30bpm...

I give my flesh and blood freely to the Warchief. I am the instrument of my Warchief's desire. I am a weapon of my Warchief's command.

From this moment until the end of days I live and die - For the Horde!

NIGHT IN GALES - Five Scars. Been around for years (no doubt some of you older folk may know them) but this is their first album for 8 years or something ridiculous?? Anyway, it shreads. Think later-day At the gates but a bit more diverse with a few traditional metal/ ballad passages thrown in.

It's great to hear some proper Melodic death without the core.

anyone who is into a bit of prog might like Haken. Fairly newish band, just released there 2nd cd called visions (nocturnal conspiracy is one of my favourite tracks). Also I got hold of Leprous - Bilateral .. all I can say is that I was blown away with the cd!

Not new, but I just discovered Ayreon a few months back and have since acquired a few cd's, really cool concept (visions being sent back in time then the songs explaining what happens, spans planets, galaxies.. everything!) and the amount of talent in the project is amazing. Star One is also another one of lucassens projects that has songs about sci-fi books/movies/tv shows which i thoroughly enjoyed.

Not really the screamy type of metal that gets most the attention here but for those who enjoy power/prog and the like might want to check some out :) If anyone has some more like this please let me know! Would love to discover some more bands
May my weary soul find release for a while, at the moment of death I will smile.

NADER SADEK - In The Flesh
Features Steve Tucker (ex-MORBID ANGEL), Blasphemer (ex-MAYHEM) and Flo Mournier (CRYPTOPSY).
About a million times better than the new Morbid Angel album!

GHOST - Opus Eponymous
Fucking cool album, for fans of old-school heavy metal similar to Mercyful Fate. Catchy songs about Satan.

ELITIST - Fear In A Handful Of Dust
Death/Sludge, recommended if you like Eyehategod.

MY DYING BRIDE - The Barghest O' Whitby.

An 'ep' consisting of one 27 minute song. Absolutely shits all over their last two albums. Long (obviously), slow, depressvie and goddamn doomy. No melodic death/prog opeth riffs like a lot of 'doom' these days. Style wise think Turn loose the swans era.

Also check out their EVINTA release from earlier this year. 3cds, 10 minute 'songs'. Basically awesome atmospheric/doomy soundscapes and not a 'normal' my dying bride release. I love it. I also love with these two releases how they've done something COMPLETELY different and just said fuck that to doing another typical tried and tested my dying bride album.

Entrails - The Tomb Awaits (SWE)

These guys were recently recommended to me by the metal guy at Junction Records down in Freo. If you like your death metal old, swedish and full of cranked boss HM-2's, then they are definitely worth a good listen!

I know right!

It's like some long forgotten relic from 1988 or something... probably would of come out on Noise Records lol

But this was released THIS YEAR... either they're not that great or it's a faithful recreation of that early era of technical thrash
